EIC: Thomas Agnew

Thomas Agnew is a designer and cultural entrepreneur based in Pittsburgh, PA. Agnew is Co-Founder of BOOM Concepts Gallery, a co-working and community arts space in Pittsburgh, and EIC of JENESIS Magazine, a media outlet focusing on youth culture lifestyle and young creative entrepreneurs. Through JENESIS Magazine and BOOM Concepts’ national networks, Agnew has produced numerous arts and culture events, in collaboration with high level partners such as the Carnegie Museum, Rocksmith Clothing and the Thrival Festival in Pittsburgh. Other notable projects have been the Global Coolin’ Festival in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the production house Broccoli City and JBC.  Originally from Fremont, OH, Agnew completed his B.A. in Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. “My passion is to create forums of expression to represent and build up underrepresented voices in media, entrepreneurship, and art businesses.” Agnew is known for his track record of early start-up mentorship, design and marketing, operations management, and content creation/management targeted to young adult audiences. He has been featured in the “Young Black Pittsburgh” publication as an ambassador in the arts and culture sector in the city. Agnew has been a guest speaker for the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership and several arts/culture podcasts in Pittsburgh. His notable mentorship and curation projects have been “+5 Pittsburgh’s Next Five”, a showcase of visuals arts, music, and “August Agenda”, a series of events to showcase local visual and apparel artists in Pittsburgh.


BOOM Concepts is a creative hub, gallery and performance space in Pittsburgh, PA. It is dedicated to the expansion of activity by underrepresented artists and entrepreneurs. BOOM Concepts has four locations across Pittsburgh: a flagship location in Garfield, home to the operations of JENESIS Magazine and Magic Organs Studio, and additional co-working spaces in Oakland and Allentown neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, where it hosts the Black Unicorn Archives & Library project. BOOM Concepts is an artist-founded and artist-run space.
