[Be Awear] Maurice Sendak inspires clothing line Runaway Clothing; promotes literacy

Runaway, a premier southern lifestyle brand announced the early release of designs inspired by Maurice Sendak. Runaway had been months in the development process, but decided to release the designs early after learning of Sendak’s death. Sendak, a noted children’s author, best known for writing “Where the Wild Things Are,” died May 8.

“Rather than sugar coating, Maurice Sendak would present life’s dilemmas and offer a creative, moral solution.  His books captured the youth of the world with unparalleled illustration and imagination.  He was a true visionary in his field and will be missed,” said artist Gabriel Eng-Goetz, president of Runaway.

The designs will be part of Runaway’s summer line. Runaway will donate a portion of profits from the Sendak inspired designs to North Carolina public libraries to help promote children’s literacy.
