Brey Quick: Journey of the Come Up #4: Spiritual Hunter
This week consisted of work, work, and more work. I gotta eat out here like everybody else. Instead of bottle poppin and fuckin with hoes and shit, I stayed in and made beat after beat. I’m in the middle of my new project…so I’m putting in the time and effort.
Fortunately, I had a lot of drama and issues going on which brought out the best. Just everyday life issues with family, taking care of business, love and all that ya know. Major but nothing I cant handle.
I’ve always been one to understand that the worst always brings out the best in you…unless you let it kill you. Which could never happen to me because I’m such a competitor. Skyed.
This past weekend I was in Jacksonville, NC helping my good friend, and former NC Tarheel, Marcus Ginyard, with his first annual basketball camp. Helping the kids out is something I always look forward to, because when I was a boy I didnt have many professionals take time out to show me the ropes. I’m rocking the full beard right now so the kids have fun with that, calling me James Harden, Rick Ross, but mostly Kanye West. It’s whatever with me. I’ve heard it ALL. Trust me.
In a town full of marines and servicemen/women, you can only feel great about helping their children out with their dreams and aspirations. Skyed.
I alwyas try to leave you all with some new SkyedUP Shit. So heres some new SkyedUP.
Before I produced this track, I was in a grimey mood. It was late night, I had just finished flying a couple planes and I wanted to capture the spirit of an OG go getter/hustler, but at the same time keep that spiritual SKYEDUP feeling. Think Native american man meets Martin Luther King in the midst of the LA Riots trying to provide for his family and keep them secure at the same time. Doing what needs to be done.
Im starting to understand how I want to convey SkyedUP and spiritual sounds and Hard drums are me 100%. Im a very natural person but at the same up to date, so this fits me well. Skyed.
