[Feature] Polyester: Keep It Real Player

We didn’t get a chance to link with Polyester for the producers issue so we gave him a separate feature to start off the new year. With building more of a fanbase on DOM’s most recent tour, Poly has racked up some great upcoming placements. Here we briefly talk to him about who he’s working with, working up close with artist, and creating classics.

We know you’re close relationship with DOM Kennedy already so how will that come to play with you both working on his 1st album? Will you be doing an executive producing for Get Home Safely?

The first song I did with DOM was “Miss Donna Karen” off Curly Tops and Nautica  Jackets. Then from there we kept creating work. Next, we worked on Future Street/Drug Sounds and we ain’t looked back since.

It would be safer to say I’m just gonna be doing what I been doing with DOM’s project and that’s coming to the table with ingredients to the pie. A title is just a title.

Other than OPM, who have you been in the studio with working on new heat? Anything special you’re working on to push yourself into the forefront of individuals out of LA?

Recently, I been vibing out and working with a longtime friend of mine Mikey Rocks and that’s been fun. Also I’ve been working with Mac Miller which has been really fun as well.

As far as what’s gonna push me ahead of the rest, I believe I’m going to practice only working with artist face to face like all the greats did. That’s how DOM and I have always created. I believe emailing beats have lessened the value of the artist/producer relationships and cheapened the process of really creating a true song.

Do you think more artist should start reverting back to working face to face with producers? Does it bother you at all when people want to just pass files back and forth vs just coming to you and doing a real collaboration?

Yes to all of that. Ask yourself, how did Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson create Thriller? After you answer that question apply it to Me and Dom.

Do you think anyone right now has the ability to create a song right now that could even amount to a classic right now on that level of thriller?

>Anything possible, but you can’t compare it to Thriller but somethings Kanye has done has shocked the world and that’s more what I mean. Yellow Album shocked the scene.

To switch it up a bit, we let the OG tell us a few player things about himself and a few player rules before coming to LA.

What are the 3 most player items you keep on you at all times?

I have a silver arm cuff I’ve worn everyday for 14 yrs. There’s been times I thought I lost it but for some reason I always find it. I also have a pinky ring. I feel every player should have a pinky ring. Last but not least, I feel every player should keep they game tight and that never leaves me either.

What 3 of your own songs represent the player in you?

WestSide Wine Sippaz
