[Illustrative Excellence] Profile: Brush Footwear (Benjamin Smith)
Name: Benjamin Smith
Website: www.brushfootwear.com
Artistic Style:
I have a difficult time limiting myself to one style… From surrealism, abstract, realism, street art, to pop art. I use it all to influence my own style.
Art Medium:
I currently work mostly on acrylic paintings, and shoe and clothing designs. However, I love exploring with new mediums. I have been involved in glassblowing, tattooing, ceramics, and graphic design. I’ve been involved in art ever since I can remember.
Art Inspirations:
I’m inspired by everything and anything. I’m heavily influenced by almost all music from rock, rap, to classical. Nature is a huge inspiration as well. Artists who inspire me range from Jackson Pollock, Picasso, Warhol, Leonardo da Vinci, Jeff Koons, Alexander McQueen, Banksy, and Shepard Fairey.
Explain first noticed artwork:
The first collection that I completed for Brush Footwear was the “Mask” collection. I was influenced by ancient culture civilizations from all around the world. Of those, the “Noh” were the first completed pair of shoes I painted. They represent highly regarded and integral components of Japanese musical dramas. Max Talbot was actually the first to buy them and my very first customer, which was awesome!
Most hated Art Cliché:
To be honest, I try not to pay much attention to the clichés and do my own thing.
Worst Client Habit:
So far all of my clients have been nice and pretty easy to work with!
