Artistic Style: My artistic style is modern while pushing art into a new direction. I respect the traditional and classic graphic designers / art directors but I want to make my own images of how I see life from a female graphic designer perspective.
Art Medium: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and my sketchbook
Art Inspirations: All things vintage like band posters and type. I am a firm believer that you can express an emotion, place, and time all through typography and color. Most of my work is type heavy you will rarely see pictures.
Explain first artwork: My first recognized work was a poster that I created in undergrad for my ADVE 101 class. The project was to create a poster for Black History month that could be placed in an elementary school to help bring recognition to it. I designed a poster that looked like a puzzle and in some areas had prominent African Americans in it but then I left some pieces blank. I did that to explain to the children that those blank pieces were for them and others there age. It went over very well and I received compensation from it as well.
Most hated Art Cliché: Women on fliers and design! I try my best if I do have a client that wants something for a party or event to persuade them not to place a girl on a flyer or design. In my opinion these woman aren’t even going to be at the party so why give them exposure. Woman on fliers does not = a hot design. But, since my clients are very important to me if that is what they truly want then I’ll do it BUT I wont place my logo on the design.
Worst Client Habit: For the most part, my clients have been truly great to me. I think the one habit that my clients do have however is spelling things wrong or forgetting things/information that goes along or on the design. So once the final product is complete and I’m in love with it they always have something to be added which takes me back. I hate it! but people make mistakes we are only human.
Worst Client Mishap: One time I did get cursed out by a client. I was creating a logo design for them and the turn around time was taking longer than expected due to the fact that the client was not responding in a timely manner. I believe they thought once they responded corrections would be made on the spot and that rarely happens unless previously stated. So because of no fault of my own, the client claimed they were through with me and my unprofessional work. Then proceeded to curse me out. A few days later they called and apologized but I terminated that contract. Respect is a 2 way street.
Before someone hits you up about work they should: Please be serious about what they want. I am young, yes, but I am a very serious designer. I believe that your time as well as mine is valuable so treat it as such. Other then that lets make magic.
