Hello Luvs. I’m Angie, and this is your welcome to my journal. That’s me up there, behind the camera (which is where I usually am in photos). I’ll be filling you in on some of the behind-the-scenes stories of my favorite photographs throughout the course of this journal, but to start us off, I just wanted to tell you a little bit about myself.

I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, and in that program my concentration was photography. I learned in film, processing and printing all my own stuff in a darkroom. I’ve actually only been doing digital photography for 3 years now, and I own 9 film cameras (some Polaroids) which I still use pretty regularly. I’m a sucker for any camera made before 1980. Not because vintage is in, but because companies started making cameras easier for people to use, in order to expand their business, and sacrificed some of the quality as a result. Older cameras are bulky, hard to use, and heavy, but they make amazing photos. And a bonus: I actually just found out there’s a darkroom close to my house. Hopefully I can find time to get in there and show you guys some of my printing skills…if I haven’t forgotten them all.

Beyond the whole photography thing, I’ve got a passion for amazing young people who have experienced some crazy life situations. I’ve worked in a youth prison, alternative schools, mental health, and nonprofits. Because of these youngins, I went back to school. And then back to school again. I have a Masters Degree in Criminology from UC-Irvine, and I’m currently in the Sociology PhD program at Georgia State University. So, I apologize in advance if I occasionally slip into nerd mode.

So, that’s me. Part nerd, part photographer, all passion. I’m hoping you all enjoy this journal!

Luv,
Angie.
