[Straight From...] Reason Speaks On Making “Some S*it I Did EP”

Releasing his project with DJBooth.net and us, JENESIS, the West Coaster, Southern representer released his 8 track project Some S*it I Did EP entirely produced by THX. Below Reason speaks on his 3 favorite tracks from the project.

Can’t get Enough – this song happened on accident, and by far the most diverse song I’ve done. When I heard the record I thought it wasn’t edgy enough, or “hip hop” enough, but once I started writing I felt more of an artist, as opposed to a hip hop artist. Once I got to the hook I was stuck, and a friend of mine showed me a video of this kid name Stan Carrizosa and I immediately contacted him, got him in the studio, and made magic. The meaning behind this song is feeling like being good just isn’t good enough. You got to be great at everything.

Black JFK - For starters what I mean by black JFK, is that I was channeling the late great President. I’m a big history buff, and while learning about him, I found a lot of similarities between the both us. He was young, very vocal, hated secret societies, and loved the spot light. The lyrics mean a lot to me because I was in a dark, very dark state of mind. There was so much going on in my life that I felt attacked, and if I’m going to get attacked, then I’m going out with a bang. My manager called his other artist that he represents name “Jesse fick” to sing on the hook, and he exceeded my expectations. The lyrics on this song are probably my favorite on this EP

Can’t Stop Me – If you’re going to compete in this industry, you have to die for it, you have to sweat, bleed, fight for it, because everyone else is trying to beat you. I lost sleep writing this song because I felt like I can do what you do…but better, and when I say “you can’t stop me” I mean it. This song is battling myself, because I’m my own worse enemy, this song is one of my favorites because it’s me letting loose, having fun, and not letting the pressure effect me. Actually I was inspired by watching the trailer for “The Hunger Games” and after watching it, I wrote this song. Within good REASON.
