[Under The Radar] Gibby – Flava For Ya Ear

Gibby, 20, recently released a solid solo debut, Hot Fudge, sponsored by JENESIS Magazine. (Click Here) The mixtape features samples of some of hip hop’s most memorable tracks such as Craig Mack’s “Flava in Yah Ear” and Three Six Mafia’s “Sippin on Some Syrup.” Gibby says that, “the original idea was to add all these OG Busta vocals throughout the tape to give a feel of what my style origins from.” He sat down to talk about the aftermath of the Hot Fudge release and the scoop on some of his retro favorites.

What do you put on top of your ice cream?

Ironically, caramel (laughs)

Why the name Hot Fudge?

One of my close friends came up with it. Busta Rhyme’s has a song called “Hot Fudge” & we figured my style bottled up in one was this song, if that makes sense.

Worst job:

Boys and girls club, all those ghetto ass kids, fuck that!

Favorite Olympic event:

Gymnastics, I like watching females do the splits (laughs)

Favorite old school rapper:

Q-Tip, of course

Favorite old school track:

Pharcyde “Passing Me By”; It reminds me of my dad’s Z & Venice beach.

Favorite retro style:

OG Puma Clyde or OG Jordan’s with the Nike Air in the back strictly; Selvedge denim, jersey and the bucket cap

Favorite brands & places to shop:

Hall of Fame, EBay, & thrift stores. There hasn’t been anywhere to shop since they shut down the Bape store LA

How does it feel to release your first project?

It feels really good. I’ve been coming across crazy encounters lately; random people coming up to me just wanting to shake my hand or take a picture. All because they like my music, it’s mind blowing

What’s your favorite track & why?

“False Reality” because I feel like that’s the epitome of hip-hop
