[Under The Radar] Profile: Robert Akins III
The younger generation is taking notes on the music industry. A young artist like Robert Akins III has realized that being multi-talented in his artistry puts him in a better position to succeed. The 19 year old artist is very active with his music; he produced, rapped, and mixed his latest mixtape ‘Exeunt.’ (Click Here) In this mixtape he has incorporated his favorite technique, sampling; for example, check out “Cut Your Throat.”
Where do you want to see your career improve the most?
“I’d love to get more in to live instrumentation, that’s what I’m really interested in; especially mixing that with samples. There will be plenty of examples in my new solo mixtape and my 88-Keys produced mixtape ‘Georgia Rose’, those will be out this year as well.”
You incorporate a lot of samples; who are some of your musical influences?
“Yes, I love sampling. My musical influences are of course Kanye, 88-Keys and Cudi. But my first influences musically were MJ, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dr. Dre and early 90’s music…”
Describe a night in the studio.
“I don’t spend nights in the studio, I record myself, since I also engineer…I have to take myself to a new place in my mind though. But there’s no weed in the studio, just some good ass pizza or some Wendy’s and I’m good.”
Robert describes his music as “anti-fuck nigga music” and plans to change the game by telling his side of the truth, “I talk about what they aren’t saying, people need to hear the truth, and there are always two sides to a truth.”
