When you think of Texas’ hip hop scene do images of purple drank, slab rides, gold grills, and DJ Screw float into your mind? Texas’ hip hop history has been deeply rooted in rap and chopped and screwed music, but a new artist is reshaping the mold. Don’t be fooled by the hipster dollar sign Travi$ Scott is far from the usual. Travi$ may be new to some, but he has been making music for years now. Scott blends eerie samples with echoing vocals, psychedelic choruses, heavy bass and instrumentals that bleed 1980/90s pop. Can’t picture it yet? Image Kid Cudi, 808s and Heartbreak Ye’ and M.I.A’s outrageously catchy choruses. That only describes the music!

Travi$ Scott produces, raps, and edits all his own music videos. Sure Scott isn’t Spike Lee or Stanley Kubrick, but he does a darn good job. Creating compilations of choppy, out of place, film clips, colorful flashes, and the continuous use of boobs (which is fine by most of America). Travi$ Scott has proven to be a one man band and quite frankly he’s f-cking good at it! If 2012 brings the end of the world at least we can die with amazing music in our speakers.
